民國47年八二三砲戰寫下中華民國歷史重要的一頁，金門小島，負起悍衛中華民國之責，短短的44天，落彈量達47萬餘發。其後又經歷20年的「單打雙不打」，直到民國67年中共與美國建交才結束中共的砲火攻擊。而八二三炮戰所留下來的砲彈，也是日後金門鋼刀製作的主要原料。
The artillery of August 23rd, 1958, wrote an important page in the history of the Republic of China. Kinmen island had the responsibility of defending the Republic of China. In just 44 days, more than 470,000 shells fell. Until 1987, there was shelling on odd days and ceasefires on even days. The CPC and the United States established diplomatic relations before the end of artillery fire. The artillery shells from 8/23, are the main raw material in Kinmen steel production these days.
來到八二三戰史館，可以讓我們對這個戰役有更詳細的了解。當時緊張的戰局及驚人的落彈量，讓人不得不印象深刻。戰史館裡的展示主題分為「八二三戰役簡介」、「砲戰前夕自由世界與共產勢力的分布」、「實戰危機44天」、「運補作業」、「烽火中的歲月」、「政治作戰」、「戰地記者」、「台籍充員兵」、「砲戰的延續」、「作戰功勳」、「走過歷史的記憶」。
Visting the August 23rd Military History Museum gives us a more detailed understanding of this campaign. The war was intense and an amazing amount of shells fell. The Military History Museum is divided into themes, “The August 23 Battle Profile," "Artillery on the eve of the free world and the communist forces in distribution," "Combat the crisis 44 days," "Transportation and supply operations," "The war years," " Political battle," " War correspondent, " " Taiwanese soldiers who charge," " Continuation of artillery," " Meritorious war," and " Through historical memory."
除了牆上的解說面板，還有許多戰況模型可以看。在館內，也可看到當時台灣本島與金門間無法互相往來，在這樣的時局下，也產生出反映當時的特殊文物。

金門太湖與823戰史館是金湖鎮必遊景點之一。太湖的景色非常美麗，每到傍晚夕陽也會照映在湖面上，而鄰近的昇恆昌大飯店，也將景觀客房面對太湖，讓遊客能在度假時也能欣賞太湖的美。
Kinmen’s Taihu Lake and Military History Museum are must visit attractions. The Taihu scenery is very beautiful, with the sunset every evening on the lake. The adjacent Golden Lake Hotel, has a Viewing Room facing Taihu Lake, so that visitors can appreciate the beauty of Taihu Lake.
